The number of magazines on the shelves of bookstores is rising day by day. Let’s have a closer look at these magazines which both gets the youth adopt reading habit and gives the young men of letters the opportunity to manifest themselves.

The number of popular literary magazines grows apace each day. We have listed them for you. From the earliest to the latest! From the most popular one to the less known!

Ot (Grass)

Beginning its publishing life with the motto “It’s all about grass”, OT magazine hit the shelves in 2013. Since 1996, it has been published in two different titles; ‘Öküz’ (Ox) and ‘Hayvan’ (Animal).

Targeting to be ‘devoured’ by its enthusiastic subscribers from the moment it is published touches on a wide range of subjects such as football, politics, street life, music, lifestyle and so on. You can enjoy reading several columnist and authors such as Mahir Ünal Eriş, Gündüz Vassaf, Nermin Yıldırım and Enis Batur.

Opening up cafes named after the magazine, OT (grass) is hosting its subscribers especially in İstanbul and in other big cities of Turkey.

Kafa (Head)

It is the most popular literary magazine that has been published since September 2014. Published monthly, you can take delight in reading some authors ‘and columnists’ articles such as İlber Ortaylı, Ataol Behramoğlu, Şebnem İşigüzel, Murat Meriç and Alper Canıgüz. With its 45 issues published, popular names such as Turgut Uyar, Atilla İlhan, Ahmet Kaya, Sezen Aksu, Uğur Mumcu, Filiz Akın, Cem Karaca appeared on its cover pages.

Bavul (Luggage)

Beginning its publishing journey with the motto; ‘Life is a journey, keep it close’, Bavul defines its editorial policy with these words; “ We are carrying the old and the new along with the losses”. Assertively referring to the stories in of streets, you can read the articles and columns of İsmail Saymaz, küçük İskender, Sezgin Kaymaz, Ali Lidar and Hakan Günday.

Kafkaokur (Kafka-reader)

Winning a name for itself by a blog in 2010, first published its printed edition in 2014 with its motto; “I am the literacy top-to-toe”. The magazine claims its main target as ‘popularizing literacy among youth and encouraging the amateur writers and illustrators by receiving them with open arms. Keeping its word and focusing on its main target, the magazine has hosted many amateur writers for years. Masa (Table)

Published in 2016, the magazine primarily includes art and culture as well as literature. The monthly magazine gives its subscribers the opportunity to read the writers’ columns such as Sinem Sal, Yekta Kopan, Beyazıt Kahraman and Cemal Tuzak. Amateur writers are also welcomed.

Arka Kapak (Rear Cover)

Being within the structure of the bookstore Babil.com, Arka Kapak, focusing on book and culture, first published its printed edition in 2015, October 1st and found its place on the shelves. With its astoundingly remarkable cover illustrations, every issue is dedicated to a novel. You can enjoy the columns of writers such as Ekber N. Necef, Ümit Yaşar Özken, Murat Erşen, Vecdi Demir, Nihal Yormaz, Doğukan İşler and Feridun Andaç.

Öykü Gazetesi (Tales Newspaper)

Öykü Gazetesi that has been published since 2016 only focuses on tales. Being within the structure of Can Yayınları in 2017, January, Öykü Gazetesi also provides new storywriters with the opportunity to meet its subscribers. The editorial team is consisted of names such as Faruk Duman, Ercan Yılmaz and Zeynep Gülçin.

Aksi (Grumpy)

Maintaining itself as a culture and literature magazine, Aksi takes its place on the shelves in 2017, September. In its first issue, not only the American rapper Tupac Shakur pleased the readers showing up on its cover, but also the magazine surprised its subscribers with an escapist part from Ahmet Ümit’s as-yet-unpublished novel. You may coincide with particular writer names such as Fazıl Say, Sevin Okyay and Çağlan Tekil while leafing through.

45’lik (Extended Play)

Ranking in the latest culture and arts magazines, 45’lik published its first issue in 2018, February 16th. The magazine is named after a popular bar located in Beyoğlu. Güven Erkin Erkal, Hikmet Temel Akarsu, Murat Beşer, Teoman and Nilüfer Açıkalın contributed to the magazine with their writings.

221B

Ranking in the Turkey’s first magazine including detective and mystery stories, 221B has attracted a great deal of attraction from the moment it appeared on the shelves. Apart from bringing crime fiction writers and the readers together, the magazine also focuses on criminal research papers and articles. The writers of the magazine are Celil Oker, Algan Sezgintüredi, Çağatay Yaşmut and Cenk Çalışır.

Tuhaf (Weird)

Based on “Don’t you think so?” motto, Tuhaf begin its publishing journey in 2017, April. Stealing all the spotlights thanks to its strong editorial team also gives coverage to the poems, stories and essays of prospective men of letters. Apart from that you may occasionally coincide with some popular names such as Zülfü Livaneli, Mazhar Alanson, Sunay Akın, Hakan Günday and Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan.

Edebiyatist (Literati)

Reuniting with its readers for 3 years, Edebiyatist claims the idea that “When you stuck in exhausting fast pace of life, a paper and a pen may come to the rescue. We as Edebiyatist magazine situated ourselves as a stopover in which you find peace and remind you of stopping by whenever you get exhausted.” You can find the writings of Hıfzı Topuz, Filinta Önal, and Güvenç Dağüstün in the magazine.

Tezgah (Ruse)

The latest humor and literature magazine, Tezgah appeared on the bookshelves in 2018, January with its funny slogan; “Being duped has never been such fun!”. Tezgah grabbed all the attentions with its interviews along with splendid caricatures, cartoons, column of humorists and historical writings.
