Noise pollution is one of the biggest problems of city life. In order to prevent this problem, municipalities and citizens need to act together. According to the list of data released on the Indy100 news website, Istanbul is also among the loudest cities in the world. China's Guangzhou City ranks first on the list and followed by Delhi (India), Cairo (Egypt), Mumbai (India), Beijing (China), Barcelona (Spain), Mexico City (Mexico), Paris (France) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). So what can you do to protect yourself from noise pollution?
Insulation
If you live in a central location of a big city, it would be best to invest in your home. All you have to do is to insulate your house against noise. The first option is to renew the windows with double glazing. This method will largely stop the sounds reaching your home. If the double glazing is not enough, you can also consider the wall and roof insulation options. If you don't have the budget for this, you can consider more affordable options. For example, using carpets and rugs on the floor strengthens your sound insulation. Also, you can use special tiles on your walls. In this way, a large part of the noise will not reach into your home.
Rearrange your house
Even though most of the noise pollution comes from outside, you can get rid of some noise by arranging your own house. For example, put electronic appliances such as air conditioners, combi boilers, or refrigerators out of your bedroom or room. If this is not possible, move your bed away from the walls of the rooms where these appliances are located. This method will improve your sleep quality. If your bed is leaning against the wall, this makes you feel more noise. Because the sound vibrations will reach your bed from the walls. You can put a “buffer” between your bed and the wall to absorb the vibration.
Review legal regulations
Although municipalities take measures against noise pollution, they cannot always follow these regulations. Therefore, if there is a nightclub or social place in your neighborhood, review the legal regulations. If these places do not comply with legal regulations, you can make a complaint to the necessary units. If your home is on a main street, you can ask the public authorities to place a traffic sign on the street indicating that it is forbidden to honk.
Talk to your neighbors
If there are people who complain about noise pollution like you, you can talk to them about what you can do. However, do not hesitate to talk to the people who are the source of the pollution. Warn your neighbors in a polite manner. If you can’t get the expected reaction, contact the authorities.
